The battle between Viktor Johansson and Robin Olsen to be Sweden number one for the World Cup qualifying campaign will step up over the next few days.
Manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has confirmed his "two fantastic goalkeepers" will each get one match to stake their claim during the June internationals. Sweden take on Hungary and Algeria in friendlies on Friday and Tuesday in the last games before they launch their bid to reach World Cup 2026 in a group with Kosovo, Slovenia and Switzerland.
The group winners will automatically go through to the finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico while 12 runners-up plus the four best Nations League group winners, based on Nations League rankings, will go into another round.
Tomasson split the game time in March, with Stoke City favourite Johansson starting in a 5-1 win over Northern Ireland and Aston Villa's Malmo-bound Olsen starting a 1-0 win over Luxembourg. Johansson has won eight caps in all and his status back home has risen sharply since he joined Stoke from Rotherham United last summer.
Tomasson told the Stockholm press pack: "They will get one game each this time too. It's very good. It's important to have two fantastic goalkeepers. (Kristoffer) Nordfeldt is also very good. We shouldn't forget that we have two young goalkeepers who are on the rise as well. Jacob (Widell Zetterström) and (Oliver) Dovin
"In the end, I have to choose one to stand. But it's good to give them both a match each again."
Olsen's move to Malmo, having been deputy to Emi Martinez at Villa Park, will work in his favour.
Tomasson said: "I'm very happy about Robin's move to Malmo. I'm really looking forward to it. It's an incredibly good choice for him. He'll get a lot of playing time."
