Report: Newcastle Sell Out Celtic Allocation

Newcastle United fans have wasted no time securing their spots at Celtic Park for next month’s friendly, with the Magpies quickly selling out their full allocation of tickets for the pre-season encounter.

The Premier League side were handed 7,200 tickets for the Adidas Trophy match, set to take place in Glasgow on Saturday 19 July. According to The Mag, those tickets were completely snapped up by mid-May—remarkably, this came even before the 2024/25 season had officially wrapped up.

It’s a strong indication of the appetite among the Newcastle support to see their side take on Celtic in Scotland, particularly given the fixture’s status as part of Adidas’ promotional calendar.

The enthusiasm south of the border hasn’t quite been mirrored in Glasgow, however, with Celtic fans slower to commit to the summer match-up at Celtic Park, which isn’t included in season tickets—unlike in previous years when supporters were given a number of friendlies as part of their package. You can see why, during a tough financial time for so many, fans might be hesitant to pay extra.

Brendan Rodgers is expected to use the match to test out different line-ups before the new season, with new signings and returning loanees all looking to make an impact. The away end should bring plenty of noise, but it’s unclear how strong the home turnout will be as the match approaches.

Friendlies rarely match the intensity of competitive games, but a full away end from Newcastle should give Celtic’s pre-season clash a sharper edge when it comes around in mid-July.
