Bayern Munich were initially optimistic of beating the competition to Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz until Liverpool seriously entered the race.
The Germany international now favours a move to Anfield over Bayern Munich and the Reds are working on finding an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen.
On Tuesday, we [covered claims from Germany](https://sportwitness.co.uk/florian-wirtz-edwards-boston-liverpool/) that Liverpool CEO Michael Edwards has received approval from the club’s owners, FSG, to pay €150m for Wirtz. The Bundesliga club have already rejected an earlier offer of €130m.
The Premier League winners are in negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen for the 22-year-old. His club teammate, Aleix García, has given an interview to [AS](http://as.com/) and today’s edition of the newspaper carries it.
Wirtz scored 16 goals and registered 15 assists from 46 games this season. AS asked the 27-year-old Spaniard whether the attacking midfielder is as ‘good as he seems’.
Responding to that, he said: _“He is. I spent a year with him, and I think he’s dazzling. He has superior quality and is a game-changer. He’s also driven to improve every day and always be the best. He’s surprised and impressed me.”_
The Spain international believes his teammate is currently in the top 10 best players in the world, but maybe not the top five.
_“He’s definitely in the top 10 in the world. I don’t know if he’s in the top 5, but he’s definitely in the top 10. He has spectacular talent and a hunger to keep improving,”_ García explained.
The newspaper then specifically asked García if it’s better for Wirtz to join Liverpool over Bayern Munich and the player didn’t hold back with his response.
_“Of course. It’s better not to have him as a rival,”_ he added.
_“Tah has gone to Bayern, and if Wirtz were to leave, they’d also be almost unstoppable. I think he’ll go to England and make a difference. I wish him the best of luck because, apart from being a star, he’s a very good guy.”_
