BREAKING Man Utd and Chelsea suffer massive blow as Man City agree£46m deal for transfer target

Manchester City have reportedly agreed a £46.3million deal to sign AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.

City have moved to add strength to their midfield and appear to have beaten Manchester United and Chelsea to the signing of the 26-year-old Netherlands international.

It was previously reported that personal terms were verbally agreed earlier this week, and an agreement has now been struck between the two clubs, with some outlets reporting the total fee could rise to £59m.

Reijnders will reportedly sign a five-year contract at the Etihad and will undergo a medical. City hope to have completed a deal for the midfielder before the start of the Club World Cup on June 14.

With Rodri sidelined for most of the season, Pep Guardiola opted not to start £50m January signing Nico Gonzalez or £53m man Matheus Nunes in centre midfield for the FA Cup final defeat against Crystal Palace, instead playing attacking midfielders Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne in deeper roles.

Evidently, Guardiola was not happy with the midfield options at his disposal, and with De Bruyne leaving as a free agent at the end of his contract, the Spaniard has moved quickly to secure another option.

Reijnders was one of AC Milan's standout players in the Serie A last season, scoring 10 goals and assisting five times despite the Rossoneri missing out on European football next season.

The 22-time Netherlands international joined Milan in 2023 from AZ Alkmaar for less than £20m.

City also remain in discussion with Wolves for £40m-rated Rayan Ait Nouri and Lyon over a deal for forward Rayan Cherki, who is valued at around £35million, with Liverpool also keeping tabs on the 21-year-old after Arne Slot previously held talks with the player before the Reds' move for Florian Wirtz accelerated.
