Nottingham Forest can offer Champions League striker exactly what he wants after…

Nottingham Forest are set to pull off an audacious triple-swoop of Brazilian talents, but one high-profile striker has just given Evangelos Marinakis the chance to truly show his ambition.

Forest’s finances are in a strong position going into the summer transfer window, with the additional boost of European football, giving Marinakis a springboard to keep the club progressing.

Even before Forest made it back to the Premier League, Marinakis has never hidden his ambition to see the Reds competing in the top competitions for silverware.

Silverware could well be on the cards in the UEFA Conference League, giving Marinakis the chance to keep showing his desire for progression that may just appeal to an available Champions League-calibre striker.

Nottingham Forest’s ambition could appeal to Jonathan David

Jonathan David is a free agent after announcing his departure from Lille at the end of the season, sending sides across Europe into a frenzy to acquire his signature.

As you can imagine, David has remained tight-lipped on his next club, but in an interview with The Athletic, he has given away one key attribute he is looking for that Forest could well provide.

David said: “I want a club with ambition that wants to do something. Obviously, I would love to fight for titles, to win titles. A team that’s competitive, that has ambition, really, with a good sporting project.”

League titles may be beyond Forest’s reach at this moment, but the ambition to compete and win trophies is certainly there, with an ambitious owner at the top to match.

Marinakis is ready to invest heavily in Forest this summer and Jonathan David would be the dream player to start with, coming in as a star forward option to ease the burden on Chris Wood and to help Igor Jesus adapt to European football. As expected, though, Forest will face competition for the Canadian.

Jonathan David is attracting serious interest from Italy

The only thing that could prevent Marinakis from securing someone like David is that other clubs can offer Champions League football, including those in the Serie A.

🚨‼️ #Inter believe they’ve done everything to convince Jonathan #David to join as a free transfer, including adjusting agent fees to meet the demands.

Journalist Rudy Galetti has claimed that Inter are seriously pursuing the Canadian striker, whilst champions Napoli have been named as a potential suitor as well.

Forest would face an uphill battle if they wanted to bring David to the City Ground, but Marinakis’ ambition makes the club one that could appeal to someone of his calibre, with the trajectory of the club only pointing upwards in recent years.

How much of an impact an owner’s aspiration makes on a player is unknown, but if David is even remotely impressed by Marinakis’ vision for Forest, the club must make a move for him.
