Steven Gerrard has urged Liverpool to sign a football superstar, labelling him a 'big talent.' During Arne Slot's debut campaign in England, the Reds won their second ever Premier League title and they ran roughshod over their opponents. They finished the season 10 points clear of Arsenal in second place and rather than soak their triumph in, they've immediately gone about recruiting for next campaign, building a team capable of holding onto their crown.
While they've lost Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, Liverpool have already replaced the Englishman with Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong. He's far from the only player who will be coming through the doors at Anfield, however. They've been linked with a number of exciting talents and it's set to be a very busy summer for Slot and company.

While they've already wrapped up a deal to sign Frimpong, Liverpool have no plans to slow down just yet. They've been linked with a number of players as they look to freshen things up at Anfield and retain the Premier League title next season. With Andy Robertson taking a step back during 2024/25, the Reds have identified Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez as a potential upgrade.
The left-back was very impressive for the Cherries and according to reports, he could be on his way to Anfield before the summer winds down. They've also shown interest in AC Milan's Rafael Leao and the Portuguese star is said to be open to the idea of moving to Merseyside. Another player that they're keen on bringing into the fold this summer is Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz. It won't be straightforward, though, as they've already had two bids for the attacking midfielder rejected.
They shouldn't give up, though. That's what Liverpool legend Gerrard believes, anyway, as he revealed recently.
Gerrard Has Urged Liverpool to Sign Wirtz
He thinks the star is a 'big talent'

After a couple of stellar seasons in Germany, Liverpool are interested in Wirtz, but will have to work hard if they're to lure him away from Leverkusen. They've made a number of bids for him already, but have had no luck so far. Gerrard is keen to see the side get a deal done for the German, though.

Florian Wirtz has refuted claims he wants to wear the no.10 shirt at Liverpool, with the German edging ever closer to a move to Anfield. A report from Sky Germany said Wirtz, who wears the no.10 on his back at Bayer Leverkusen, hoped to do the same at Liverpool. The no.10 shirt is currently worn by Alexis Mac Allister, but Wirtz rejected the notion he would forcibly take it from the Argentine. "Who says I want the 10 I respect players," Wirtz wrote on an Instagram story. "Don't believe everything what's written." Bayer Leverkusen have rejected two bids so far for Wirtz, but both teams are hoping for a swift resolution in the upcoming days.
Speaking during an interview, the former midfielder was asked whether there was any player in particular that he wanted to see Liverpool bring in this summer and he named the German. Gerrard said:
"Look, there are rumours of, obviously, Florian Wirtz. A big talent. Done fantastic for Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen. There's talk there is going to be a really big signing. Big talent. Huge future in front of him. So, Liverpool's the place for him. Let's hope we can make it happen."
Wirtz has spent his entire career at Leverkusen so far, and has been very impressive throughout, but the 2024/25 campaign saw him take things to a whole new level. While his side failed to hold onto their Bundesliga crown, he had a stellar season. Wirtz played 45 games across all competitions, starting 36 of them. In that time he scored 16 goals, assisting a further 14.
In terms of on a game-by-game basis, he averaged 2.51 shots, 2.02 passes and 2.33 dribbles. He was crucial to how Xabi Alonso's side played and would be a huge addition to the Liverpool team if they manage to get a deal over the line.
