Liverpool has reportedly initiated contact with AC Milan regarding the potential summer transfer of Rafael Leao, against a backdrop of swirling rumors concerning the Anfield futures of Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo.
The opening of the summer transfer market has cast doubt over the futures of some of Liverpool's Premier League-conquering heroes.
Barcelona and Al-Nassr are believed to be circling for Diaz who netted 13 league goals, while Bayern Munich's name has been floated in connection with Gakpo after he bagged 10 goals.
It is suggested that should one, or possibly both, players leave Liverpool ahead of the new season, Leao could be a potential recruit.
Reports in Italy from Tutto Mercato indicate that enquiries have been made by Liverpool's top brass to bring the Milan standout to English shores.
Leao, a graduate from Sporting CP’s revered academy, journeyed to San Siro via Lille, completing a transfer worth $40 million in 2019. Since then, he has clinched the Serie A title contributing to an impressive tally of 70 goals and 62 assists across 270 appearances.
Adding to the intrigue, a recent statement shared by Gazzetta dello Sport in 2023 shows Leao's openness to the prospect, having expressed his affinity for the Premier League: "Premier League. I think every player wants to play in the Premier League because it's a very competitive league.

"It has engaging football, great teams and a worldwide audience. Serie A is currently very well positioned in the football world but I would definitely have to say the Premier League in the future."
Having faced Liverpool in the Champions League, Leao has already had a taste of Anfield's atmosphere. However, a possible transfer deal appears complicated due to Milan's reluctance to sell, with a reported asking price of $148 million.
Moreover, the Reds would face stiff competition from Bayern Munich, who has already held talks with the player, as well as interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.

Meanwhile, Liverpool's primary focus remains on securing a deal for Florian Wirtz, with ongoing negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen after an initial offer was rejected.
It appears highly unlikely Liverpool would be able to afford both Wirtz and Leao this summer, unless it was to receive a substantial offer for one of its current players.
The Premier League champions also remain interested in Bournemouth left back Milos Kerkez, with the Cherries having had a bid rejected for a possible replacement this week.
