Report: Eddie Howe in bitter blow as £50m player has chosen to join PSG instead of Newcastle

Newcastle United look set to miss out on Bryan Mbeumo, and now another target could pass them by.

It has been the story of the summer so far for Newcastle United, with major targets moving elsewhere.

Newcastle believe Mbeumo is too expensive, as Eddie Howe looks for an alternative winger.

The Magpies’ other priority is getting a new right-sided centre-back. Marc Guehi is Newcastle’s top target, but there are other options out there.

Newcastle want Illia Zabarnyi from Bournemouth, but he is another player who will cost a lot of money.

PSG barge past Newcastle United for Illia Zabarnyi

It has been reported that Bournemouth want £50million for Zabarnyi. However, his lofty price tag is not Newcastle United’s biggest concern.

According to Foot Mercato in France, Paris Saint-Germain are looking to sign Zabarnyi on the back of winning the 2025 Champions League.

The Ligue 1 giants are eager to bring in defensive reinforcements, with the Ukraine international identified as a player of interest.

Foot Mercato add that Zabarnyi wants to join PSG, in what is a blow for Newcastle United’s hopes of recruiting the 22-year-old.

While Bournemouth would likely prefer to retain Zabarnyi, a move abroad for him would be more palatable than joining a Premier League rival.

Newcastle United’s rivals getting torn apart

If Zabarnyi does make the move to PSG, it is not only a blow for Newcastle United.

It is also a blow for Bournemouth, who appear to be getting their star players cherry-picked after an outstanding season.

Dean Huijsen has joined Real Madrid, while Milos Kerkez is attracting strong interest from Premier League champions Liverpool.

Elsewhere, Antoine Semenyo is another player who could leave Bournemouth.

Newcastle have looked at Semenyo, and they may suddenly have to look even closer as they search for a Mbeumo alternative.
