Significant change is happening at Wolves after a structural change was announced amid the summer transfer window.
In a shock update, it was reported that Matt Hobbs could leave Wolves as the club look to change the structure behind the scenes.
After Hobbs was named Wolves’ sporting director in November 2022, there is set to be a changing of the guard, as Matt Jackson is in line to lead recruitment.
It’s a positive alteration for Vitor Pereira, who will be given a greater say in Wolves’ transfer plans, with Jorge Mendes and Valdir Cardoso to play a part in business over the summer.
The Old Gold want to give Pereira the chance to ‘maximise his own relationships within global football’, as per the understanding of Johnny Phillips, who broke the unexpected news.

Wolves could lean on Jorge Mendes to land Mateus Fernandes
Wolves fans are eager to see Mendes involved at Compton Park once more, particularly at a time when the transfer window holds such significance to the club’s future.
Only four days into the window, Wolves are being stripped of their top talent, with Matheus Cunha signing for Manchester United and Rayan Ait-Nouri being eyed by Manchester City.
It’s integral that Fosun invest to replace Cunha and Ait-Nouri, who contributed to so many goals over the 2024/25 season, but when operating on a budget, it’s easier said than done.
MORE WOLVES STORIES
It doesn’t have to be a daunting task, however, as Mendes has one client that might just be looking for a move away, and might just have the answers to replacing Cunha’s progressive threat in central areas.
Southampton had a woeful campaign that ended in relegation, but two players stood out for their magic, one of whom was a player represented by Gestifute, Mateus Fernandes.
The Saints signed Fernandes from Sporting CP last summer, but their relegation could have the midfielder looking for more, which is where Mendes and Wolves could come into play.
Mendes could present an attractive proposal to both his client and Wolves, who could consider the 20-year-old as a worthy acquisition to restore the dazzling quality lost by Cunha.
In an abysmal Saints side, Fernandes was able to express himself with six goal contributions in his debut Premier League campaign, making his potential and suitability to the English game known.

Mateus Fernandes has been compared to former Wolves ace Matheus Nunes
Positionally, Fernandes takes up a slightly deeper role than Cunha did, but the traits the pair share are food for thought for Wolves.
Even without any links or communication, it’s known that Wolves would be a fan of Fernandes’ profile, given his comparisons to a player who once represented the Old Gold.
Speaking to BBC while Southampton were linked to Fernandes, the player’s former coach, Vasco Seabra, likened the youngster to Matheus Nunes.
“Here in Portugal, he is often compared to Matheus Nunes. I believe that Mateus Fernandes has similar characteristics,” Seabra said, before explaining what actually separates Fernandes from his compatriot.

“However, he is a player who can play in more positions than Matheus Nunes. He can play in the initial phase, further back, but at the same time, if necessary, he can also play between the lines, as a false winger.”
Seabra also described Fernandes as an ‘immense talent’ who possesses ‘qualities that adapt so well to the Premier League’.
It would be a fascinating and incredibly impressive transfer for Mendes to assist Wolves with, particularly when the Old Gold are crying out for a player of his profile.
