Manchester United's hopes of a busy summer of transfer activity got off to the perfect start on Sunday after securing the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
The Brazilian has arrived at Old Trafford after United triggered his £62.5million release clause. They are now looking to add Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo to their ranks in what would be another statement capture.
However, it is still highly likely that outgoings will outnumber the volume of new arrivals this summer, with United determined to cut their cloth to raise funds.
United oversaw a wealth of departures last summer after Ineos improved the club's success rate in the seller's market. But what happened to the 18 players United either permanently sold or released last summer?
MEN Sport has had a close look:
Kie Plumley
Young goalkeeper Plumley was released by United after failing to make a single first-team appearance for the club. He joined United in September 2023, signing as a free agent after being released by Oxford United.
After leaving Old Trafford last summer, Plumley, 21, joined Isthmian League South Central Division side Hartley Wintney. He was on the move again as soon as April, joining Herne Bay, who ply their trade in the Isthmian League South East Division.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
After five years at Old Trafford, Wan-Bissaka was sold by United to West Ham United for a fee of £15million. The Reds always intended on moving him on last summer and his exit made room for Noussair Mazraoui to arrive from Bayern Munich.
After signing a seven-year deal at the London Stadium, the defender made 38 appearances in his debut season for the Londoners, chipping in with two goals. He operated as a right-back, a right wing-back, a left-back and a left wing-back at various junctures throughout the campaign.

Marcus Lawrence
Lawrence, 19, has been without a club since being released by United. Records show he made just eight appearances for United's Under-18s in the Under-18s Premier League during his time at the club.
Raphael Varane
Varane was released by United following three seasons at the club and he joined Italian side Como, penning a two-year deal in July. However, he was forced to retire just two months later because of a serious knee injury, bringing a fabulous career to a premature conclusion.
He is now a board member at the Serie A club. Como, who are managed by former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, finished 10th in the Italian top flight this season.
Willy Kambwala
After offering signs of potential in 2023/24, earning ten appearances under former United manager Erik ten Hag, Kambwala was sold to Spanish club Villarreal in July last year for an initial fee of £9.6m, with up to another £5m due in add-ons.
The French centre-back was not keen on the idea of leaving Old Trafford, but he was informed by Ten Hag ahead of the 2024/25 campaign that regular game time could not be promised. The 20-year-old made 21 appearances in his first season at Villarreal.
Will Fish
Centre-back Fish joined Cardiff City last August for an undisclosed fee, penning a four-year deal after failing to make the grade at Old Trafford. However, it was not until towards the end of the season that he became a regular starter for the Bluebirds.

Making 24 appearances in total, he was powerless to stop Cardiff from being relegated from the Championship, meaning they will play in the third tier of English football for the first time since 2003 next term.
Alvaro Carreras
Carreras joined Portuguese heavyweights Benfica in May last year after they exercised the option to turn his loan spell into a permanent deal. United sold him for an initial fee of €6m and included a significant sell-on clause in the deal, as well as inserting a buy-back option that remains active until 2026.
In his first full season at Benfica, the Spanish left-back excelled, scoring four goals and registering five assists in 50 appearances. He is now being heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.
Brandon Williams
Williams was released following an injury-hit 2023/24 campaign that saw him spend time out on loan at Ipswich Town, who won promotion to the Premier League from the Championship. That ended his 16-year association with United after joining them back in 2008 as a youngster.
Last month, the 24-year-old avoided jail after driving at 100mph and crashing his Audi A3 back in August 2023. He later issued a statement, outlining his desire to resume his football career this year.
Maxi Oyedele
Academy graduate Oyedele made a surprise switch to Polish club Legia Warsaw last August, signing a three-year deal. It was considered a left-field switch for the former Burnley youngster, despite qualifying to play for Poland through his mother.

However, he excelled in his debut season in Poland making 24 appearances, helping them win the Polish Cup. He started the final, helping Legia beat Pogon Szczecin 4-3 in the final.
Donny van de Beek
After four difficult and deeply frustrating seasons at Old Trafford, United cashed-in on Van de Beek last July, selling him to Spanish club Girona for a minimal fee. The deal included various clauses that could still see United bank north of £7million.
His first season in Spain saw him rack up up 35 appearances, scoring three goals and registering five assists. Girona narrowly avoided relegation from La Liga, finishing just two places and one point above the relegation zone.
Hannibal Mejbri
Out of contract at Old Trafford this summer, United made the decision to cash-in on the Tunisian last year. He joined Burnley in a deal worth £5.4m, which could still rise to £9.4m.
Hannibal's first season at Turf Moor saw him help the Clarets secure an immediate return to the Premier League, helping them secure the Championship's second automatic promotion spot with a whopping 100 points. He made 39 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal and creating five.
Scott McTominay
After scoring ten goals in 2023/24, United made the decision to cash-in on McTominay last August amid the fact he had entered the final year of his contract. His stock was at an all-time high and the £25.7m fee United banked for him counted as pure profit due to his status as a homegrown player.

His debut season at Napoli was nothing short of outstanding, with his return of 12 Serie A goals helping them clinch a second league title in three seasons. McTominay, 28, is adored by Napoli's supporters, meaning he has become a firm fans' favourite.
Shola Shoretire
After failing to sign a new contract at Old Trafford last summer, Shoretire left United after more than a decade on their books and was snapped up by Greek side PAOK. The 21-year-old signed a four-year contact.
The winger, who was born in Newcastle, made 27 appearances in his debut season for the Greek club, including six outings in the Europa League. He scored four goals.
Omari Forson
Following the conclusion of last season, Forson was offered a contract to stay at Old Trafford. He had made seven first-team appearances during the 2023/24 campaign, including one Premier League start.
However, he turned the offer down and moved to Italian side AC Monza, earning United a compensation fee. His maiden season in Italy saw him struggle for game time, racking up just 13 appearances across all competitions, earning just one Serie A start.
Facundo Pellistri
Despite offering glimpses of his capabilities at Old Trafford, Pellistri's tally of 25 appearances in four years meant it was in everyone's best interests to go their separate ways last August. He was sold to Greek club Panathinaikos for an initial fee of £5.1m.

His debut season in Greece was relatively solid, with his 35 appearances yielding four goals and five assists. However, he was not a regular starter. United have a buy-back option open for three years.
Mason Greenwood
After spending the 2023/24 season on loan at Spanish side Getafe, United sold Greenwood on a permanent basis last July. He joined French side Marseille in a deal that could be worth up £26.6m.
His first season in France was a roaring success, as he scored 22 goals in 36 matches in all competitions. His haul of 21 league goals saw him finish the season as Ligue 1's joint-top leading goalscorer alongside Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembele. Marseille finished second in the league table.
Anthony Martial
Following nine years at Old Trafford, Martial was released upon the expiry of his contract. Without a club until mid-September, he was eventually snapped up by Greek outfit AEK Athens.
The Frenchman, who struggled with injuries in his final two seasons at Old Trafford, plundered nine goals and registered two assists in his first season in Greece. He is under contract until 2027.
Charlie McNeill
McNeill was released following the expiry of his contract and was snapped up by Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, signing a three-year deal. He had previously spent time at Hillsborough as part of United's Pro Experience Programme.
Despite making a dream start to his Owls career, scoring twice on his debut in a 2-1 win over Hull City in the first round of the Carabao Cup, McNeill found opportunities difficult to come by, making just seven appearances all season. Wednesday, however, signed him with a long-term plan in mind.
