Hamza Choudhury is under consideration for a summer transfer to Olympiacos, reports from Greece claim.
Choudhury is currently set to return to Leicester City after his loan spell with Sheffield United ended with defeat in the Championship play-off final.
But he may not stick around long enough to feature at the King Power Stadium again, with Sport FM reporting that his name has brought to Olympiacos’ attention as he would fit the style of play favoured by manager Jose Luis Mendilibar.
The report adds that Choudhury will not continue at City beyond this summer despite having two years left on his contract.
This past season, City had seemed happy to sell Choudhury, with a buy option written into his Sheffield United loan contract.
But that’s not been taken up, and with City back in the Championship, there is a possibility his situation could yet change.
Choudhury did well with the Blades, becoming a regular starter as they fought for promotion, spending a few games in defensive midfield but mostly playing as a right-back, where he first featured under Enzo Maresca at Leicester.
It was under the Italian that Choudhury earned himself a new City contract, one that runs until 2027.
Moving to Olympiacos would give the 27-year-old the chance to play in the Champions League.
The Greek giants won their first title in three years this season and so earn direct qualification into the 36-team league phase of UEFA's elite competition.
Doubts around Choudhury’s future means central midfield will be a key area for City to strengthen in the summer.
It’s possible Boubakary Soumare, Wilfred Ndidi and Harry Winks all depart over the next few months, which would leave Oliver Skipp as the sole senior option in the centre of the park.
Choudhury is currently away representing Bangladesh. They play Bhutan in a friendly on Wednesday before taking on Singapore in an Asian Cup qualifier next week.
