Kings tend to keep Domantas Sabonis over DeMar DeRozan

The Sacramento Kings are not shopping Domantas Sabonis despite recent rumors—reports linking him to the Raptors are false—while the team is expected to explore trade options for DeMar DeRozan this offseason.

The Sacramento Kings had a turbulent 2024-25 season. After a disappointing start, head coach Mike Brown was fired, and the front office made a major move by trading De'Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs. In a three-team deal, Zach LaVine arrived in California.

With the Kings missing the 2025 NBA Playoffs, trade rumors have swirled, especially around their top players. However, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, three-time All-Star center Domantas Sabonis is not on the trade block.

Per Siegel, the Kings have not contacted other teams to gauge interest in Sabonis. Sacramento reportedly has no plans to part ways with the 29-year-old center.

Unless the franchise undergoes a major shift toward rebuilding—which currently seems unlikely—Sabonis is expected to return as a cornerstone of the team heading into the 2025-26 season.

Sabonis signed a four-year, $186 million deal with the Kings in 2023 and is set to earn $43.6 million in the second year of that contract.

There were also whispers linking Sabonis to the Toronto Raptors, but Doug Smith of the Toronto Star shot down those reports during an appearance on Sactown Sports 1140.

"I've never heard his name in a conversation with anybody involved with the Raptors for a year and a half," Smith reported. "Sabonis is a great player, no question about it. But I've never heard his name linked to Toronto."

While Sabonis appears to be staying put, the same might not be true for DeMar DeRozan. According to Siegel, the Kings are expected to explore trade possibilities for the six-time All-Star this summer.

DeRozan is under contract for $24.7 million in the 2025-26 season, making him a valuable target for teams looking for scoring without a long-term commitment.

One potential destination? The Miami Heat.

"For years, the Miami Heat have been labeled as a prime destination for DeRozan," Siegel noted. "He will once again be viewed as a plausible target for Pat Riley's team."

In contrast to Sabonis, who remains a key piece of Sacramento's future, a trade involving DeRozan this offseason seems entirely realistic.
