Liverpool is moving a bit differently this summer in a bold departure from their recent transfer conservatism with three high-profile moves.

The club secured Jeremie Frimpong (£29.5m from Bayer Leverkusen) early, activating his release clause to address right-back depth after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s exit

Attention then shifted to Milos Kerkez, with Liverpool preparing to accept the £40m–£45m demands for the Bournemouth left-back.

Most strikingly, negotiations for Florian Wirtz—potentially a British-record €150m (£126m) deal—highlight FSG’s newfound aggression, with personal terms agreed and Leverkusen edging toward acceptance.

This triple swoop, exceeding £200m combined, is a refreshing window for many Reds fans.

But last summer, there as not so much positivity.

Liverpool faced significant disappointment after Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi reversed his decision to join the club despite agreeing to personal terms and a €60m (£51m) transfer fee.

The midfielder, who initially greenlit the move after discussions with sporting director Richard Hughes, abruptly opted to stay at Real Sociedad in August 2024, citing his “unconditional love” for his boyhood club.

Now Arsenal have reportedly agreed to bring the San Sebastian native to the Emirates, with multiple reliable reports claiming a deal was agreed.

But strangely, the player while speaking in an interview with Radio Nacional de España , has played down a move and suggested he does not know where his future lies:

“My future? It will be a long summer. I don’t know how it will end,” he said as quoted by Mikel Recalde

“If Xabi Alonso calls me to join Real Madrid? I’ve always said Xabi is my idol, and it was a privilege to have him as my coach at La Real B.”

“If he called me now? I don’t want to talk about that hypothesis, I’d rather talk about the present.”

“It would be disrespectful to talk about that while I’m on national team duty.”

He then seemed to paly down a move to Arsenal and claimed that he was not in London to do a medical at Arsenal when those reports were doing the rounds:

“I posted pics on a Spanish beach while rumors said I’m in London doing medical exams for Arsenal? Yes, I did that to make it clear those rumors were not true.”

It seems like the player is not sure of what he wants to do in his career, and it comes as a positive now that Liverpool have moved on from him.
