West Ham are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, with Djorde Petrovic the latest name to emerge.

Chelsea have a lot of goalkeepers on their books, with some out on loan from the Premier League, while also attempting to sign Mike Maignan from AC Milan.

West Ham let go of Lukasz Fabianski and will likely need another goalkeeper who can compete with Alphonse Areola for the number one spot.

Petrovic has impressed out on loan at Strasbourg, and is now the subject of interest from West Ham.

West Ham could add Petrovic to join Areola in their ranks after an outstanding spell on loan at French side Strasbourg this season.

The Daily Mail has reported in its print edition (4 June, page 67) that with Chelsea keen on Maignan, they could be prepared to sell Petrovic.

It is said that the 25-year-old is already of interest to West Ham.

With Chelsea also interested in Mohammed Kudus, Petrovic could be included in any potential deal, but as it stands, there has been nothing concrete.

Petrovic made 31 appearances for Strasbourg last season, and could be brought in as an immediate challenger for the number one spot to eventually take over from Areola.

West Ham need a new goalkeeper

Fabianski departed on a free transfer after joining in 2018, and despite his age, he still featured a lot throughout the campaign despite being behind Areola in the pecking order.

Areola had an inconsistent season, and it is clear that another goalkeeper is needed to either support or replace him.

Petrovic could be ideal depending on price, as a promising goalkeeper with experience under his belt and the potential to improve.

If Petrovic does join, he could be afforded time to settle in with Areola as first-choice, before taking over if he continues his fine form from Strasbourg.

The Serbian has already made 23 Premier League appearances for Chelsea as he was preferred in Mauricio Pochettino’s reign, and would arrive as a highly-rated option from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea already have Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen and several other goalkeepers on their books, and West Ham could take advantage of this market opportunity to land Petrovic.
