Report: After £109m Florian Wirtz offer, Liverpool have now submitted bid for 'rising star' as well

Liverpool have already been very active in the transfer market this summer.

Richard Hughes – Director of Football at Anfield – is working hard to help Arne Slot remain competitive next season, with Liverpool already bidding £109m to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

That situation is ongoing, while Liverpool also held talks over Hugo Ekitike – the Eintracht Frankfurt striker with 22 goals last season.

Now – according to le360sport – another bid has gone in, this time for Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal.

The Moroccan news outlet now believe Liverpool have made a bid to sign the 19-year-old from Rennes.

Le360sport explain that Newcastle United have met with the Morocco U20 international, while Lille and OGC Nice are also keen to sign the centre-back.

However, it is Liverpool who have made the first bid for the teenager, after his impressive 2024/25 campaign with Amiens on loan from Rennes – although the exact amount, nor any price tag, are disclosed in the report.

Who is Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal?

Liverpool wanted Dean Huijsen before his move to Real Madrid, so Slot is clearly in the market for a new central defender.

Marc Guehi has also been linked with Liverpool, but Ait Boudlal may represent a more sensible signing for defensive depth, one who can learn from Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate before eventually stepping in to replace one of the two.

The Marrakesh-born defender is a natural leader, captaining the Morocco U17 side at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and scoring twice at the tournament.

Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal is considered to be one of the most talented players in Morocco. In 2023, he was the leader and captain of his country at the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations where Morocco won the silver medal and showed a superb generation of players such as Zakaria Ouazane,…

Ait Boudlal even made his way into the coveted Next Generation segment on the Guardian, who describe him as a ‘rising star’ and a ‘formidable presence in aerial duels’ at the back.

With Liverpool seemingly ready to spend heavily on Wirtz and another attacker, the Moroccan wonderkid represents a slightly cheaper option to bolster the defensive department, compared to the likes of Huijsen and Guehi.
