Federico Chiesa has found few opportunities to impress at Liverpool under Arne Slot, and has admitted that a return to his old club Juventus would be "something to think about" - but some fans in the Liverpool Echo comments section want to see him stay and fight for his place.

The Italian forward arrived for an initial £10 million fee last summer, but has only clocked up a little over five full matches in total playing time. His lack of minutes have kept him out of the national team, and he will want to get back into the good graces of Italy manager Luciano Spalletti before the World Cup next summer.

Rumours of Chiesa wanting to return to familiar territory in Serie A have been doing the rounds all year, but it's not a sure thing. On a return to Juventus, Chiesa said: “Never say never. I still love the club and the fans."

Speaking in a wide-ranging interview in Italian news outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chiesa clearly has a high opinion of Liverpool despite his minimal impact. He said: “[Slot] reminds me of Allegri in terms of his winning mentality, but he employs different methods, coming from the Netherlands. Everyone thought he might struggle, but he proved to be a great coach within modern football ideas, and we deservedly won the Premier League.”

There are question marks hanging over the heads of other Liverpool forwards Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, so there could be a chance to step up for Chiesa if they are sold and not replaced.

Some fans reckon he should be given more of a chance to prove his talents in England. Reader Dizzyrulesok thinks that he could: "I hope he stays and is given a chance… most likely Salah will go to the Afcon tournament and then Chiesa will take his place."

Commenter Bigna writes: "A likeable figure in the club... I only hope he gets his chance, but whatever he decides he has my best wishes."

Boozedupbullit says: "If Chiesa goes good luck to him, should've definitely had more game time." Mayko agrees: "I’ll still sing his song, can’t get it out of my head. YNWA, hope he stays."

Joolzlfc writes: "Just give the guy a decent chance!" Cyclingcylon adds: "Can't blame the lad. Been treated appallingly in my honest opinion."

On our Facebook page, Sean Cooney says: "Absolutely don't believe Chiesa will leave Liverpool. I believe he will stay and fight for his spot."

Carol Jakeman has not been impressed, however: "It may look bad, well he hasn’t played for long, but when he did, it was if he wasn’t there! So let him go, he isn’t worth his extortionate wage!"

Have your say! Is there a future for Federico Chiesa at Liverpool? Could he step up if one of Liverpool's other forwards leave this summer? Comment below, and join in on the conversation.
