Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez is hoping to get back to the pitch for the start of next season’s campaign after a brutal injury ended his season in February.

Martinez was stretchered off in United’s home game against Crystal Palace, later revealing he’d torn his ACL.

As part of his recovery, the defender travelled to London to undergo surgery to speed up his journey back to the pitch.

Thankfully the surgery was a success, with the 27-year-old determined to get back into the squad, although this could still take some time.

With ACL tears taking anywhere from six months to a year to fully recover from, Martinez’ stay in the treatment room doesn’t look to be over any time soon.

However, one Italian side are reportedly happy to be patient in their pursuit of the talented defender, even holding off bidding until next summer.

Napoli look to sign Lisandro Martinez

Metro has reported that Napoli are keeping up their tradition of scouting Manchester United stars, this time with the Argentine defender.

Last summer saw the Azzurri sign Scott McTominay who’s had his best season of his career with the Serie A side, winning the Italian league.

Since then Napoli were determined to sign Alejandro Garnacho in place of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia when PSG signed him in the winter transfer window, continuing their pursuit of the Argentine winger.

Now, Antonio Conte is reportedly looking to Martinez, however the report speculates that given his injuries, an offer for the star might not come until next summer.

Whilst it’s unknown if Ruben Amorim would be happy to lose the centre-back who’s been key in his back three, all focus is surely on Martinez’ recovery.
