New transfer interest has emerged for Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez as the summer transfer window opens once again.

However, the interest in the centre-back comes as a slight surprise give that he’s been out of action since February.

The centre-back was stretchered off the pitch against Crystal Palace earlier this year having torn his ACL. Since then Martinez has undergone surgery in London but it still a long way off a full recovery.

Now, Serie A champions Napoli are monitoring the defender as they look to strengthen their squad for a title defence next season. However, he’s not the first United star to be scouted over recent time by Antonio Conte.

Napoli continue to scout Manchester United stars

Last summer saw The Azzurri sign Scott McTominay from United, with the Scotland international going on to have his career-best season, winning the MVP award for the season.

Since then Napoli haven’t shied away from scouting more United stars, including Alejandro Garnacho, Harry Maguire, and more recently Rasmus Hojlund.

It’s understood that Conte is looking to make the most of United’s financial struggles and hope to find a cut-price deal with The Red Devils’ need to make sales.

Now, Martinez has come under the microscope, however he’s made his feelings very clear about the matter.

Lisandro Martinez responds to interest from Napoli

The Daily Mail has reported that Martinez has no interest in joining Napoli, determined to remain at Old Trafford as part of Ruben Amorim’s club rebuild.

The centre-back has a good relationship with Amorim, and prior to his injury was a routine started in the back three.

Also with Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof leaving this summer, Martinez and Harry Maguire will be the most experienced voices at the club in defence, something Amorim will need to lean on.

Either way, Martinez is very sure that he’s staying at Old Trafford, as long as the decision is up to him.
