Man United target Viktor Gyokeres preparing for 'biggest transfer of his career' as new…

Man Utd want to sign a striker in the summer transfer window and there is an elite option available.

Viktor Gyokeres has fuelled further speculation over his transfer future after he withdrew from international duty with Sweden. The 27-year-old was set to lead the line for his nation in friendly matches against Hungary and Algeria but has dropped out of the national team due to a 'minor' injury issue.

It has been deemed Gyokeres is not worth risking in two meaningless matches and he would probably have been able to play if they were competitive clashes with something at stake. The Sporting striker scored 54 goals in 52 appearances for his club side over the past season and will be given a well-deserved break ahead of an anticipated summer transfer.

While there is no disputing the fact Gyokeres has suffered a minor injury scare, The Mirror claim the true 'reality' behind his withdrawal is that the striker wants to avoid any injury that could be detrimental to ‘the biggest transfer of his career’ this summer. Manchester United and Arsenal have both expressed an interest in his signature.

Manchester United eye striker targets

Manchester United will head back to the drawing board as they look to add a striker to their side this summer. Liam Delap was identified as the preferred option for the role but has snubbed a move to Old Trafford after they failed to qualify for the Champions League, in favour of a move to Chelsea.

Viktor Gyokeres is viewed as the dream addition for United, though it might be difficult to convince him to move to a club without European football in the build-up to next summer's World Cup. It is understood United have also been made aware of Goncalo Ramos' availability this summer, while Victor Osimhen is expected to move to Saudi Arabia.

Speaking at the end of the season, Gyokeres was quizzed on a possible summer move: “Let's see. It’s hard for me to say, because yeah it is football and you never know what’s going to happen in the summer. So for me to say anything else than that is impossible.

“I don’t know [about Arsenal interest], I just focus on this. I’ve tried to focus on the last games because it’s so important and I don’t want to think about anything else. So yeah, if anything is true, let’s see in the summer.”
