Report: Danilo‘s Nottingham Forest exit takes a twist after refusing to agree to one particular …

Danilo is the latest player to be linked with a move away from Nottingham Forest.

The Reds are going to reshuffle their pack this summer, with the club looking forward to a first foray into Europe for 30 years when they enter the UEFA Conference League.

As a result, reinforcements are needed, with Igor Jesus set to sign for Forest from Botafogo, along with two of their defenders, Jair Cunha and Cuiabano.

Danilo has been linked with Lyon in recent days. He broke his ankle on the opening day of 2024/25 against Bournemouth and hasn’t been able to hold down a place in the team since.

Forest exit stalls for Danilo

It’s unlikely that an exit will be sanctioned until the three players from Botafogo check in at the City Ground, but a problem looks to have arisen.

According to Goal, however, Danilo is being pursued by Lyon and their owner, John Textor, was keen to put a clause in his contract that would see him move to Botafogo at some point.

However, the 24-year-old only has eyes for Palmeiras in Brazil, with the player only willing to play for the former champions if he ever returns to Brazil.

Now, the deal is on hold for the time being as Textor figures out his next move involving Danilo and whether he still wants to push for the Forest player.

Danilo sale is necessary for Forest

With the Conference League on offer instead of the Champions League, it’s vital that Forest wheel and deal in the market this summer.

Although finances are good, Evangelos Marinakis knows that if he’s to bring some new players to the club and stay on the right side of PSR, sales are as important as incoming deals.

Danilo’s time at the club does look to be up and the hope from a Forest perspective will be that Textor bows down on this random clause that he wanted to insert.

The midfielder was exceptional during his maiden season at Forest and without his goals towards the end of 2022/23, the Reds might have been looking at an immediate return to the Championship.
