Ruud van Nistelrooy explains why Jeremy Monga wasn’t given Leicester chance sooner

Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has insisted he doesn’t regret not bringing the likes of Jeremy Monga into his plans earlier in the season.

[Viaplay have an interview](https://x.com/viaplaysportnl/status/1930200778695664027) with the Leicester City manager today in which he is asked if, in hindsight, he regrets not giving players like Monga a chance earlier in his reign.

Leicester were relegated back to the Championship this season after a miserable campaign that Van Nistelrooy was unable to turn around after he was appointed at the end of November.

The Dutchman initially stuck with the team that he had inherited before adding to it in the January transfer window in hope of reviving their season.

That plan also saw him introducing youngster Monga to the first team set up, a surprise given he is just 15-years-old.

He’s considered a bright spot in an otherwise miserable period for the Foxes, with many expecting the youngster, who is the youngest Premier League debutant this season and the second youngest ever behind Ethan Nwaneri, to be a star in the future.

Indeed, some would have welcomed his introduction sooner, but the Leicester boss is adamant he didn’t want to do that.

“Look he’s still 15,” he said when asked if should have brought him in sooner.

“You also have to be careful not to want too much too soon with those guys. At some point after relegation, you’re going to change course which makes more sense towards a future.

“And before it is a fact, then you do that more with the selection that I got when I came in December. And you finish that with that. After that you can move on to something else.”
