Ineos closing in on double deal that will complicate future of Man United star that Ruben Amorim 'loves'

Manchester United’s quick start to the summer transfer window will make one member of the squad extremely nervous.

On the very first day of the summer window, Manchester United confirmed the arrival of Matheus Cunha in a £62.5 million deal from Wolves.

The Brazilian forward has joined up with his national team before he returns to Manchester to start his life as a United player.

Just a few days later, Bryan Mbeumo made it clear he wants to join United and Ineos are now in talks with Brentford to agree a fee for the 25-year-old.

The two Premier League forwards will add plenty of goal threat and creativity to Ruben Amorim’s side, and they could push the likes of Mason Mount down the pecking order.

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo threaten Mason Mount

When he first arrived as head coach in November, Amorim confessed he ‘loves’ Mason Mount after spending just one week with him at Carrington.

Amorim has been full of praise for Mount’s professionalism and work-rate behind the scenes, but an unfortunate injury derailed his season.

Mount made 26 appearances across all competitions last season and scored three goals in the latter stages of the campaign – two in a wonderful performance against Athletic Club in the Europa League and one against Brentford in the Premier League.

However, the arrival of Cunha and the talks with Mbeumo will shake up United’s attack and Amorim’s pecking order, and it could spell bad news for Mount.

Cunha and Mbeumo can line up together at United as the two No.10s behind a central striker. That is also where Amorim has preferred to play Mount, so it seems he will have intense competition for a starting spot.

Ineos are not planning on selling Mount, but he will have to work hard in pre-season to stay ahead of both Cunha and Mbeumo in Amorim’s eyes.

Ruben Amorim wants options at Man United

Often this season, Amorim has cut a frustrated figure on the touchline as he watched his players miss several big opportunities and throw away games.

Next season, Amorim is under huge pressure to hit the ground running and he needs attackers he can rely on for goals.

Amorim is expected to finish in the top six, and to achieve that United will need to score far more than the 44 goals they managed in 2024/25.

Between them, Cunha and Mbeumo scored 35 league goals last season and Amorim will hope for a similar output next season.

With Bruno Fernandes and Mount also pushing to start in the No.10 positions, Amorim will have an attacking department full of depth and quality for 2025/26.
