West Ham United are in the market for reinforcements ahead of Graham Potter’s first full season in charge

West Ham United are seeking to strengthen Graham Potter’s side for the 2025-26 Premier League season as the ex-Chelsea boss looks to put his own stamp on the Hammers squad.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion manager arrived at the London Stadium in early January but this summer represents his first genuine chance to shape his team, having had months to plan how the window could look.

The move has proven somewhat of a bargain with the Bees paying an initial £12.5m for the 26-year-old, who is proven at Premier League level having been a reliable back-up throughout his time at Anfield.

That deal was confirmed on Tuesday, leaving West Ham to turn elsewhere in pursuit of a new goalkeeper.

West Ham hold talks with Aaron Ramsdale

According to talkSPORT, the Hammers are in talks with Aaron Ramsdale over a move to the London Stadium. The 27-year-old spent the last season at Southampton who endured a miserable campaign as they were relegated with just 12 points - narrowly avoiding Derby County’s record-low 11-point tally.

However, Ramsdale could now be offered a way out of the south coast club who are said to want £20m for the former Bournemouth, Sheffield United and Arsenal man. Southampton agreed a deal worth up to £25m with the Gunners last summer but the initial fee was only £18m.

Despite his struggles in a poor Southampton team, Potter is said to have been impressed by Ramsdale’s stints in the Premier League with his former clubs. He spent three years at Arsenal, making 89 appearances with 32 clean sheets. He left last summer after losing his number one spot to David Raya during the 2023-24 season.

Southampton are open to his departure due to his reported £100,000-per-week wages. He is under contract with Southampton until the summer of 2028.

West Ham move could provide Aaron Ramsdale with route back into England squad

Ramsdale has not been included in Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad as the Three Lions gear up for games with Andorra and Senegal. The first is a 2026 World Cup qualifier while the second outing is a friendly game.

Dean Henderson, Jordan Pickford and James Trafford - who spent last season in the Championship with newly-promoted Burnley - have all been selected ahead of Ramsdale. The 27-year-old has five international caps and will be eager to get back involved in the England set-up.

A move to a club of West Ham’s stature and history would certainly give him more of a chance to impress Tuchel and he has proven in the past that he is good enough to play for his country.

The Hammers are in need of a new goalkeeper and with few top-quality options available, Ramsdale could be the best option considering his Premier League experience and £20m price.
