Luis Diaz faces a contract crossroads at Liverpool with his current deal expiring in June 2027.
Despite publicly stating his desire to stay “as long as possible”, negotiations for improved terms remain unresolved.
The Colombian winger earns a modest £55,000 salary.
The 28-year-old has enjoyed a productive 2024/25 campaign, scoring 13 goals and providing 5 assists in 35 Premier League appearances.
With two years remaining on his contract, the Reds face a familiar dilemma: secure long-term commitment or capitalize on peak value.
Fans were worried after the Colombian’s partner appeared to post what resembled a goodbye message on social media this week.
And it seems fans were right to be worried.
Paul Joyce of the Times has reported that the Anfield club have no plans to start negotiations with the Colombian at this stage:
“For the second successive summer, the future of Díaz, 28, has been the subject of fierce speculation, with the Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr — who were purported to be ready to pay up to €85million (£71.53million) for Díaz — and Barcelona linked with moves for him.”
“However, Liverpool have no plans to open talks with Díaz, who has two years left on his existing deal and will turn 29 midway through next season.”
The lack of renewal discussions suggests FSG is open to a sale if their valuation is met, especially as Díaz’s departure could offset the cost of Wirtz’s arrival.
For now, the Colombian’s relentless drive and inventive play continue to endear him to supporters at Anfield.
His role in securing a Premier League crown—alongside previous FA Cup and two League Cup triumphs—has only strengthened his standing as a club favourite.
It’s evident that Liverpool will soon need to address Diaz’s contract situation in one way or another.
