Fabrizio Romano has revealed the truth behind Bryan Mbeumo’s Manchester United wage demands, following claims about a £250,000-a-week deal.
Rúben Amorim’s 2025 summer rebuild at Manchester United is off to a brilliant start, with the club confirming a £62.5 million deal to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves on the opening day of the transfer window.
Day two brought more positive developments, as transfer expert David Ornstein revealed that Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo is keen on a move to Old Trafford, despite competition from Newcastle, Arsenal, and Tottenham.
United’s momentum continued with confirmation that captain Bruno Fernandes has decided to stay at the club, turning down a lucrative offer from Saudi side Al-Hilal.
With two major signings in motion and Fernandes committing his future, the focus will now shift to player sales to generate funds for further reinforcements.
Bizarre £250k a week Mbeumo claim emerges
United’s summer market dealings will not only be dictated by players who fit under Amorim, but also by keeping an eye on United’s current wage bill.
The club are currently forking out substantial wage packages to players such as Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Casemiro, which has been a significant drain on the club’s resources over the past few seasons.
Therefore, the club are looking to sign players who will not demand such high wages, which was a significant reason for outrage when Newcastle-based journalist Martin Hardy from The Times claimed that Mbeumo is demanding £250,000 a week in wages.
The Cameroon international currently earns around £50,000 a week at Brentford. After rejecting Newcastle, it is somewhat hard to believe that those based in Newcastle would know what the player is demanding from the Old Trafford outfit.
Romano explains the truth behind Mbeumo’s wage demand
Amid the £250,000-a-week claim, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano was questioned about Mbeumo’s wage demands at United in his latest GiveMeSport newsletter.

The Italian journalist explained that, despite claims that he is demanding such a high wage, his real demands are to receive a wage similar to that of Cunha and other important United players, which reportedly sits at around the £200,000-a-week mark.
“For sure he wants an important salary but nothing different compared to other players, like Cunha and more,” Romano explained. “It’s normal. When you go to this sort of clubs, you always request an important salary.”
With United looking to reduce their wage bill, Casemiro and Fernandes, two of Amorim’s most essential players toward the back end of the campaign, will be the only ones earning more than £250,000 a week next season.
