RC Strasbourg may look to use their link with Chelsea again this summer, this time in a deal for goalkeeper Mike Penders.
That’s according to journalist Mohamed Toubache-Ter, who reports that Penders is on the French side’s list of options to replace Đorđe Petrović.
They explain that Petrović is highly sought-after this season and all indications are that he will be leaving at some point in the coming months.
That will leave the Ligue 1 side with a hole to fill, and they may look to Chelsea, and Penders in particular.
They have a special relationship with the Blues thanks to both being owned by BlueCo and several Chelsea youngsters have spent this season on loan in France with Strasbourg as a result. Indeed, some see the French side as a sort of training ground for the youngsters Chelsea continue to scoop up from around the world.
Penders is one such player. He’s due to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer after being signed last year and left on loan at KRC Genk. Whether the 19-year-old is ready to be dropped into first team football in England, though, is up for debate.
A year in France could be ideal and Strasbourg have him on the list of options to replace Petrović if he departs.
