Leeds United have been linked with Kalvin Phillips almost every summer since he left the club. And it looks like this transfer window will not be any different.
The Manchester City midfielder was expected to move to Elland Road last year, but Leeds failing to win promotion scuppered the deal. He eventually joined Ispwich Town on loan this season. The club got relegated, and now, Phillips has returned to the Etihad.

As it stands, Manchester City are keen on offloading the 29-year old this summer. His time at the club has been filled with injuries and fitness problems. According to Simon Bajkowski, this summer might be Phillips’ last at the club:
“It’s no secret that he hasn’t been part of City’s plans for over a year. They were willing to let him go after just 12 months, but he opted to stay and fight for his place, which didn’t work out for him,” he told LeedsLive.
“…City wouldn’t want or expect a big fee for him, but in today’s environment where everyone is obsessed with PSR, even £10m or £15m could be seen as more than people are willing to risk.”
TEAMtalk have reported that Leeds are not planning to bring Phillips back this summer. There are a lot of reasons why a deal will not be feasible. According to the report, Daniel Farke is happy with the current midfield depth. Leeds would also prefer not to be paying Phillip’s high wages considering his extensive injury history.
Moving on from Phillips is for the best
A move for Kalvin Phillips is just not on the cards. He is past his prime, and his injuries mean he cannot play to the level that Leeds fans expect from him. Spending money on transfer fees and wages would not be ideal, especially as other areas of the team need attention.
There are better ways to spend money this summer than bringing back Kalvin Phillips.
