‘Struggling’ Tottenham star set to miss out on Everton transfer amid uncertain N17 future

Everton set to opt out of the race to sign Tottenham forward Richarlison in the summer

Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison is facing a lot of question marks over his future at N17. After showing promise during his time at Goodison Park, the Brazil international has just not got going at Hotspur Way since making the switch in 2022. The striker played second-fiddle to Harry Kane during his first season at the club, before the latter moved to pastures new in the following summer.

Instead of cementing a spot in the starting eleven following Kane’s departure, the Spurs no.9 failed to impress Ange Postecoglou and fell down the pecking order at N17. The 28-year-old is now playing as a backup for Dominic Solanke and the lack of regular gametime has made life tough for the ex-Everton star.

Everton have opted against signing Tottenham forward Richarlison in the summer.

As per Sofascore, Richarlison finished the campaign with just 24 matches under his belt. He scored five goals and provided two assists along the way to help the Lilywhites end the season on a high. However, it has been a disappointing campaign for the Brazilian and numerous injuries have ruled him out of the project at Hotspur Way for next season as well.

No ‘dreamy’ return to Everton for Tottenham star Richarlison

Tottenham need to cash in on underperforming players in the summer if they want to bring in new signings. The Lilywhites are forced to adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy due to their disastrous Premier League campaign, and a massive squad shuffle is expected in the coming weeks. One of the many players linked with a move away from N17 is backup striker Richarlison.

It was reported earlier that Everton were interested in signing the Brazilian in the summer. However, recent updates suggest that the Toffees have opted against signing the 28-year-old due to his high demands. Reliable journalist Ben Jacobs has provided an update on the forward’s transfer saga. Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Jacobs said,

“But I’m not aware, despite rumours of anything between Everton and Richarlison, I don’t have any information that suggests that Everton are going to return to try and sign Richarlison. And I think if he was to depart, even though there may be a willingness to go back to Everton, but generally I think the player realizes if he’s going to leave Spurs, he’s probably going to be leaving the Premier League as well.”

It looks highly unlikely that Richarlison will stay at Tottenham beyond this summer. The Brazil international is attracting a lot of interest from Saudi clubs as well, but his willingness to play at the FIFA World Cup in 2026 is stopping him from making the move to the Middle East. As far as Everton are concerned, the Toffees need a striker for next season as they look to kickstart a new era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

A dreamy return to Everton would be a perfect scenario for all the parties involved. But it remains to be seen whether the Merseyside club take on this option as Spurs will look to recover at least some of the £60m fee that they paid for him a few seasons ago. Will the Brazilian stay in the Premier League beyond the summer? Only time will tell.
