Spanish football’s two leading clubs could lock horns for a defensive transfer target this coming summer.
That’s according to **[Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20250604/1002477365/grimaldo-agenda-barca-reforzar-lateral.html)**, who point towards Alejandro Grimaldo as the player in question.
The name of Bayer Leverkusen star Grimaldo has of course proven a prominent one across the Spanish media headlines over recent days.
This comes amid the understanding that, amid their ongoing search for reinforcements at left-back, the 29-year-old has been identified as a potential addition by Real Madrid.
Xabi Alonso knows Grimaldo well following a shared stint together at the BayArena, with the Spanish international considered the ideal alternative to first-choice target Álvaro Carreras.
In turn, it will no doubt mark a source of concern for those behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu to learn that the club’s arch rivals are also keeping a close eye on Grimaldo’s situation.
As per a report from MD:
‘The player Barcelona most like and have in mind for the left-back position is Alejandro Grimaldo due to his quality, experience and knowledge of Barça’s style, given that he was a youth player and even played for the reserve team.’
The Barcelona brass do not currently consider the signing of a new left-back as a priority, but in the case of securing their targets both in goal and on the left wing, attentions could swiftly turn to the full-back spot.
