James Pearce reveals"what massively helped Liverpool"in£130m Wirtz transfer talks

Liverpool are inching closer and closer to completing a transfer for Florian Wirtz as talks between Bayer Leverkusen continue to reach a compromise on the transfer fee and payment structure.

The 21-year-old is one of the best players in the world and after scoring 16 goals and assisting 15, Liverpool are on the verge of signing him alongside his teammate Jeremie Frimpong.

Frimpong’s move to Anfield has already been confirmed but Liverpool are yet to reach an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen on everything that needs to be sorted out at this stage.

Personal terms are reportedly already sorted out but Liverpool seem certain they will reach an agreement with the Bundesliga side with it apparently just a matter of time until Wirtz is given the green light.

Recent reports suggest that when he makes the move to Merseyside, Wirtz will be the third-highest paid player at the club behind Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who earn £480,000 and £385,000 per week respectively.

Wirtz will reportedly earn £322,000 per week to join Liverpool.

James Pearce reveals crucial aspect of Liverpool deal to sign Florian Wirtz

Speaking on the Athletic’s “Walk On” podcast, James Pearce shared what was so pivotal to Liverpool becoming the favourites to sign Florian Wirtz.

Before the season ended, Liverpool were one of the clubs keen on Wirtz but Bayern Munich seemed destined to snap up the German talent while Manchester City were also considered a likely destination.

Fast forward and Liverpool are on the verge of completing a deal to sign him – but how has that happened?

Pearce said: “David Ornstein reported late last week that a second bid of £109m went in. It wasn’t accepted, but those discussions are ongoing. I sense an expectation from both ends that a compromise will be reached.

“I think it massively helped Liverpool that Wirtz has made it clear to Liverpool that he wants the move to happen. There was a huge expectation that he’d be going to Bayern Munich.

“When we reported the interest, the people I’d spoken to said it was about trying to ensure that Liverpool would be at the front of the queue if he was prepared to move outside of Germany. Clearly, Liverpool have done a magnificent job of selling the project to him.”
