“No-brainer” – Jeremie Frimpong discusses Liverpool transfer and Slot/Alonso similiarities

Jeremie Frimpong has admitted he didn’t have to think twice about joining Liverpool this summer, after hearing very positive things about Arne Slot.

[Soccer News](https://www.soccernews.nl/news/feyenoord-hulp-voor-frimpong-no-brainer/) cover comments from the new Liverpool signing made to SBS in the Netherlands while on international duty.

Frimpong is Liverpool’s first signing of what is expected to be a big summer for them reshaping the squad despite their Premier League title success this season.

He arrives to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has left to join Real Madrid and brought an end to a 20-year association with the Reds.

A move to Anfield had seemingly been building for some time, with various reports making it clear that Arne Slot had been keen on him since last summer. The move to Anfield is a big step up for him, and he insists it wasn’t a difficult choice to make.

“It was a no-brainer: Liverpool is one of the five best teams in the world and plays for the Champions League,” he said.

Slot is believed to have been key to the move, having been a long-term admirer of his fellow Dutchman, who has been shining at Bayer Leverkusen for several years.

He enjoyed a particularly upward trend under Xabi Alonso, who made him a key player in their title success last season, and Frimpong believes he can see similarities between him and Slot.

“He gave me good energy and positive vibes,” he said about the Liverpool manager.

“I also know that he is a good manager, so I can’t wait to play under him. I knew that he won the Eredivisie with Feyenoord. And of course, we also have some Feyenoord boys in the Dutch national team. They told me good things about him.

“They told me that he is a very caring manager, he encourages you and is close to the players. The latter is very good for a player; I had that same bond with Xabi Alonso.”
