Marc-Andre ter Stegen is reportedly “very angry” after seeing Barcelona make a move for Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia.
The Catalans are said to have reached an agreement with Garcia over a five-year contract, and he will join the club when his release clause is activated.
The potential arrival of Garcia puts Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s future in doubt. He’s said he’s determined to stay but looks to be heading for a difficult situation.
According to Diario Sport, Ter Stegen is furious after learning about the transfer through the media and is “willing to go to war” with Barcelona.
Barca plan to talk to Ter Stegen to clear up the situation, and the message from the club is clear: he does not have to leave but he won’t be guaranteed minutes if he does stay
Indeed the Catalans are said to be planning to have Garcia as No. 1 in goal for next season with Szczesny as their back-up option.
From there it remains to be seen what happens. Barca won’t stand in Ter Stegen’s way if he wants out, which may be the case in a World Cup year, but there may be few teams willing to go for him.
Saudi Arabia has been mentioned as a potential destination, although it seems unlikely the German will be tempted to the Middle East, and a difficult summer looks to be on the cards for the German stopper.
