Jets Might Have Bad News On Malachi Corley's Roster Hopes

FLORHAM PARK -- When New York Jets third-round pick Malachi Corley was drafted by the team in 2024, the team had high hopes for the Western Kentucky product.

Nicknamed the "YAC King" for his ability to take short gains into big plays, the previous regime in New York did everything they could to make sure the receiver was theirs for the taking with the 65th overall pick.

Despite the perceived interest from the staff, Corley rarely saw the field in 2024, leaving some in doubt whether he would be on the team with a new regime coming in.

Now that Aaron Glenn has been hired as head coach, Corley's roster spot is no longer guaranteed. And the head coach wants to see more from the youngster.

"Here's what I remember from Corley, his ability to get the ball in his hands and make something happen" Glenn said. "And when you have a player like that, the first thing you think about is screens, you think about punt return, kick return, you think about things like that.

"Now, we have a ways to go to really try to figure out exactly where we're going to place him, because he's been in-and-out, that's just what it is."

Corley has dealt with injuries throughout New York's offseason program this year. That isn't good news for a player who needs as many reps as possible to show he can make a positive impact on the team.

As things stand, though, there's a long mountain to climb if Corley wants to do that.
