New York Knicks showing interest in Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd

The New York Knicks fired their head coach, Tom Thibodeau, on Tuesday, and Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd is on their list of targets, according to reporting from Marc Stein.

“When it comes to available coaches, longtime Villanova coach Jay Wright — who has long expressed a reluctance to make the leap to the NBA — and Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Johnnie Bryant quickly emerged as presumed likely candidates…Two head coaches who are not currently available but said to interest the Knicks, according to league sources, are Dallas’ Jason Kidd and Houston’s Ime Udoka.”

Stein also reported that he would expect the Mavs to reject any request from the Knicks to interview Kidd. The Hall of Fame point guard has a history with the Knicks and played his final NBA season for the team in 2012-2013.

The Knicks’ firing of Thibodeau surprised some, as the coach led the team to its first conference finals in 25 years in his fifth season as head coach.
