The Celtics need to make tough financial decisions, but it doesn’t sound like they’ll budge on this player.
Boston can’t afford to be above the second apron for a second season in row. That’s why it is expected to trade away at least one key piece from the 2024 NBA title team. Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday are the likely candidates, but teams also will want Derrick White.
However, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Celtics “rebuffed” previous trade inquiries for the All-Defensive guard, who turns 31 in July.
The Golden State Warriors reportedly had their eye on White, but it appears the Celtics still value White long term even if Jayson Tatum will miss most of the 2025-26 season.
Boston does seem open to trading away Porzingis and Holiday, and Sam Hauser is another name the C’s could trade. Other NBA analysts threw out blockbuster Jaylen Brown trades. However, there doesn’t seem like there is an indication the Celtics are eager to trade away the All-NBA star, especially if they aren’t entertaining White trades.
