‘Caught me by surprise’: Journalist shocked after hearing Man Utd could now sign £15m player

Manchester United aren’t wasting much time at all in this summer transfer window.

Indeed, the Red Devils are acting quickly as they look to bolster their squad and give Ruben Amorim the best possible chance of being successful next season.

Matheus Cunha has already arrived at Old Trafford, United are keen on Bryan Mbeumo, while Emi Martinez has been linked to United too.

Now, speaking on The Done Deal Show, Ben Jacobs has claimed that United are in for another Premier League player, noting that he’s actually been surprised by this link.

Jacobs says that he’s heard Manchester United could go for Pervis Estupinan, a link that has somewhat shocked him.

Ben Jacobs shocked after hearing Man Utd could sign Pervis Estupinan

Jacobs shared what he’s been hearing from United and their search for another full-back.

The journalist says he’s been told that United could be in for Pervis Estupinan from Brighton.

The £15m man has been impressing on the south coast lately, and United are keen on the Brighton ace now.

“They still may bring in another full-back, Pervis Estupinan from Brighton is one name I’ve been hearing and that caught me by surprise a bit, because they are well-stocked down the left side, but maybe there’s some reticence about the long-term fitness of Luke Shaw.”

Luke Shaw’s injury history

Jacobs is surprised by United’s interest in Estupinan due to the fact they have plenty of depth down the left flank.

However, as the journalist notes, there are surely some doubts around Luke Shaw’s long-term fitness.

The England defender has had terrible injuries in recent times, and the numbers show just how bad things have been for the left-back.

Luke Shaw’s injury history

Injuries 29

Days injured 1,585

Games missed 347

Simply put, you can’t rely on Shaw these days. His body is failing him, and as the old saying goes, the best ability in football is availability.

Estupinan is a much more reliable option, he’s Premier League proven and he hasn’t had the same level of injury issues as Shaw, albeit he isn’t indestructible.

It will be interesting to see if United ultimately pursue this move and try to get a deal done.
