Browns Trade Idea Lands Former Top-5 Pick Playmaker

The Cleveland Browns selected a pair of quarterbacks and a pair of running backs in the 2025 NFL Draft, but only added one pass-catcher to complement either of their young gunslingers.

Jerry Jeudy had a career-year in his 2024 campaign, hauling in 90 receptions for over 1,200 yards. Outside of Jeudy, however, there isn't another standout receiver that can handle a high workload to pair with Jeudy.

The receiver room outside of Jeudy consists of Cedric Tillman, Jamari Thrash, Diontae Johnson, Michael Woods and DeAndre Carter. The Browns have a pair of solid tight ends in David Njoku and the freshly drafted Harold Fannin Jr., but Njoku is coming off of a down year entering his age-29 season, and Fannin isn't a proven commodity in the NFL.

That's why Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox suggests the Browns trade cornerback Greg Newsome to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for tight end Kyle Pitts.

"While player-for-player swaps are rare, this one could make sense for both teams," Knox wrote. "Pitts hasn't really been an offensive centerpiece since his rookie season, and the Falcons may not want to pay him market value long-term. Newsome has been mostly solid for the Browns, when healthy, but Cleveland needs to think about its offensive future. If the Browns don't find a long-term quarterback in trade acquisition Kenny Pickett or rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, they'll likely target a QB at the top of the 2026 draft. Current starting tight end David Njoku is set to be a free agent in 2026, and rookie Harold Fannin Jr. is unproven. This theoretical deal would allow the Falcons and Browns to trade in players who may not be in their long-term plans for one-year auditions with other products from the 2021 draft."

While Njoku is still a quality TE1, Pitts doesn't have your typical tight end tools. He's one of the quickest and most agile tight ends in the league, and would have no problem lining up in the slot. In his rookie season, Pitts made a Pro Bowl appearance after tallying over 1,000 yards. Atlanta's offense has been a mess in recent seasons, and Pitts' target numbers have plummeted. A change of scenery could be a great thing for Pittts, who has showcased the ability to beat NFL coverages.
