‘Interesting’: Journalist shares what he’s now hearing about Arsenal and Rafael Leao

This is going to be a decisive transfer window for Arsenal as the Gunners look to bolster their squad to become Premier League champions.

Arsenal need more firepower in their squad, and attacking additions are at the top of the Gunners’ agenda.

Arsenal will sign a striker this summer, and Benjamin Sesko has been linked to the Gunners.

Meanwhile, a new left winger is also something Mikel Arteta is looking for, and Nico Williams has been strongly linked.

On top of that, Rafael Leao has been linked to Arsenal, but according to Ben Jacobs, speaking to TalkSPORT, Arsenal aren’t likely to pursue this avenue.

Arsenal unlikely to go for Rafael Leao

Jacobs shared what he’s heard about Leao and Arsenal.

The journalist says that he now doesn’t think Arsenal will go for Leao, but he did note that this is an interesting market opportunity after AC Milan missed out on Champions League football.

Liverpool have been linked with Leao recently, so perhaps the Reds could look into this deal.

“I don’t think Arsenal will go for Rafael Leao. That is an interesting market opportunity that, because Milan don’t have Champions League football, but I’m not aware of Arsenal pushing actively for Leao and there would be a huge fee involved,” Jacobs said.

Rafael Leao compared to Gabriel Martinelli

Arsenal aren’t going to go for Rafael Leao this summer by the sounds of things, and that’s probably the right idea.

Indeed, while Leao is a top player, his output this season hasn’t been a million miles better than Gabriel Martinelli, while he’s also older.

TABLE

Martinelli trails Leao in terms of assists at the moment, but let’s not forget Arsenal don’t have a clinical number nine, so you can’t knock Martinelli for the fact that Arsenal’s attackers aren’t finishing the chances he creates.

Arsenal do need to spend big money this summer on bolstering their attack, but a new number nine needs to be the priority, not a new left winger, especially given how expensive a player like Leao would be.

Arsenal will be linked to tons of attackers this summer, but they need to make sure they find the right player to fill the correct roles.
