Chelsea should sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan for £25m despite the fact that they want to pay less.
The Blues are going after Maignan as a replacement for Robert Sanchez, who was inconsistent at best in the Chelsea goal this season. Sanchez made 34 appearances for the Blues this season, conceding 37 goals and keeping 10 clean sheets.
It has been reported in recent days that Chelsea are confident that they can land Maignan from AC Milan, despite the fact that he is their starting keeper and one of the best in the world.
However, according to a report by Sky Sports, Chelsea are unwilling to pay £25m for him, which is what Milan have asked for, considering that he only has one year left on his contract at the Italian club. It means that negotiations for a deal have stalled, and the Blues risk missing out on the Frenchman.
Opinion – Chelsea should just pay the £25m asking price

What makes less sense is that Chelsea have just spent £5m in order to avoid having to pay £25m (and £300k per week wages) for Jadon Sancho, so why don’t they just use the money that they’ve saved and bring in Maignan.
The difference that a world class goalkeeper can make is unquestionable. Look what it did for the Blues when they had success with the likes of Petr Cech and Thibault Courtois. Nobody is doubting that Maignan is a great signing, so the Blues should just pay the £25m and get him before Milan changes their mind.
The French goalkeeper is undoubtedly one of the best in the world, so when Chelsea see the likes of Porto Diogo Costa priced at £64m, and Lille’s Lucas Chevalier at £33.7m – they should see his £25m asking price and jump at the opportunity. If not, goalkeeper-needy teams such as Manchester United and Newcastle could start to look at Maignan instead.
