Manchester United are still searching for a replacement for Andre Onana, with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez emerging as a strong contender.

Andre Onana’s position as United’s first-choice keeper is understandably being questioned, given his problematic time since arriving at Old Trafford.

This season, the keeper has led the stat for Premier League goalkeepers in mistakes made ending in a goal conceded. Needless to say, it’s not the ranking he’d want to be leading on.

As such, United are looking for potential replacements, with the United recruitment team scouring Europe for strong successors.

However, close to home, Martinez is now getting firm interest from The Red Devils.

Now, Ben Jacobs has reported that United are going to make a move if they feel confident enough that they can land him.

The feeling is that Emiliano Martinez will be leaving Villa Park this summer, but it’s unknown how he feels about a potential move to Old Trafford.

However, the report explains that United’s preference for a new keeper would be to sign the 32-year-old.

Martinez has had a tremendous rise since arriving at Villa Park in 2020 from Arsenal, becoming Argentina’s first-choice keeper, lifting two Copa Americas and a World Cup.

For Villa, Martinez has been formidable between the sticks, registering 70 clean sheets in 212 games, keeping off the opposing team in 33% of all his games.

This would be a significant improvement on Onana, given his 24 clean sheets in 101 games, giving him a clean sheet rate of 24%.

Needless to say, Amorim and his defence would be sure to feel more confident having Martinez behind them, however, if he would want a move to United remains to be seen.
