Nottingham Forest man reveals ‘very tense’ move to club – Wanted to follow well trodden path

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Carlos Miguel has detailed the ‘very tense’ departure from Corinthians that led him to join Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

[ESPN Brasil cover comments](https://www.espn.com.br/futebol/corinthians/artigo/_/id/15271394/carlos-miguel-ex-goleiro-corinthians-detalha-saida-e-revela-plano-da-epoca-so-se-virasse-o-real-madrid) from the goalkeeper today made in an interview with the PodPah podcast about his controversial departure from the Brazilian side.

The 26-year-old was part of a very dramatic move to Nottingham Forest last year, joining in a €4m deal from Corinthians.

His move was very much a saga as the transfer went backwards, and forwards and he ended up in something off a dispute with the Brazilian side about the move. They, and their fans were left very unhappy with the goalkeeper’s decision.

Corinthians had given the starting to sport Carlos Miguel and let their legendary goalkeeper Cássio leave, after he’d been with the club for more than a decade. Within weeks, the now Forest player decided to leave, leaving the club in the lurch.

He, though, insists that the problem was Corinthians not making their proposals until the last minute.

_“I was there, and no one had sent me a proposal,”_ he said .

_“And I was talking to the guys from Nottingham (inclined to go). They wanted to sign another goalkeeper, they had almost been relegated and I accepted the proposal. Corinthians made me the proposal on the day of the game against São Paulo. But that was it, I had already signed the pre-contract._

_“It took days, weeks to decide. I thought about going, not going, I talked to the people close to me, you see the situation Corinthians was in… It’s not even jumping before it sinks (Corinthians). I knew that if everyone got their heads together and knew where they were, it would get better. Corinthians is very big._

_“There were a lot of things that were done that I didn’t like. Suddenly there was a mess, they said they asked me to play and I refused. The atmosphere was very tense. It got to a point where I left.”_

Things have not gone quite to plan for Carlo Miguel so far as he’s found himself playing a back up role to Matz Sels this season.

The Belgian goalkeeper proved to be one of the surprise stars of the season, limiting Miguel to just a handful of appearances this season. That’s not an issue, though, and the long-term aim remains to follow the likes of Alisson and Ederson.

_“It was a career plan, the dream is to play in Europe, in one of the biggest teams in the world, to follow in the footsteps of Alisson, Ederson,”_ he added.
