One Everton transfer target may have just invited David Moyes to make an approach to sign him this summer.

The Toffees are facing a huge summer, in what is the first major transfer window under The Friedkin Group’s ownership.

David Moyes did terrific work after replacing Sean Dyche as manager.

Evertonians now want to see the Scot backed, and he’ll certainly need good support given how many players are leaving the club.

Everton have already confirmed several departures, and recently announced that Carlos Alcaraz will be signing permanently after his loan move.

Everton want to sign at least one new midfielder this summer, with Orel Mangala returning to Lyon after injury wrecked his loan spell.

And it’s been claimed Matt O’Riley of Brighton is a player of interest to Everton.

And he may have just opened the door for Moyes to come and get him.

With Mangala not coming back to Everton, Abdoulaye Doucoure leaving as a free agent, Everton need to reinforce in midfield.

Yves Bissouma is a player Everton are looking at, but there is competition in the form of Leeds United and Aston Villa.

But O’Riley is of interest too, and the Denmark international has made some rather interesting comments about his current situation.

He admitted to BT: “I’m best at the number 8 position, where I can go box to box. I’ve only played two games there, otherwise I’ve been used as a winger, false number 9 or something else.

“It makes it difficult to show off when you play a position you’re not completely happy with.”

“I’m just giving my opinion. I can play better for the team if I play the number 8 position, but I can play well in other positions. You can say it in a way that is not aggressive. If you are honest with another person, you don’t lose anything. The coach can always say he doesn’t agree.

Moyes should now move for O’Riley

These comments from O’Riley are very interesting, and one wonders if those at Everton have caught wind of them.

Clearly, the player feels like he hasn’t been used correctly, or to his strengths, by Fabian Hurzeler.

He hasn’t said that he wants to leave, but the subtle complaint might just invite other clubs to test the waters with a bid.

And Everton should do that, because O’Riley is a good player.

A lot of Everton fans want to see O’Riley signed, and the £25 million player (BBC Sport) might well just have given Moyes the encouragement he needs.
