Manchester United need to bolster their ranks this summer ahead of next season in the Premier League

Manchester United are under pressure to perform better in the Premier League next season. They finished down in 15th place in the last campaign which is unacceptable for a club of their size and stature. Ruben Amorim will want to them compete higher up the table next time around.

In the meantime, the Red Devils have the chance to bring in some new faces to bolster their squad. They also have the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door should they wish to. They have already sealed the signing of Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha, with more potentially on the way - including Bryan Mbuemo, much to the chagrin of Newcastle United.

Manchester United should eye Mike Maignan as Andre Onana replacement

United goalkeeper Andre Onana made a series of high profile mistakes last term. As a result, his long-term future at Old Trafford is up in the air at this moment in time. He has been linked with an exit from England in this window, with teams in Saudi Arabia linked.

If Onana were to head out the exit door over the next couple of months, they would need to find an adequate replacement. Step forward AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, who has emerged on the radar of Chelsea recently, as per Sky Sports. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him move from Serie A in the near future for a new challenge in his career. The 29-year-old would be a safe pair of hands for the Red Devils if they managed to get him. The goalkeeping position has been a problem position for them over recent times. Onana’s confidence has dipped and he isn’t the most reliable option between the sticks.

Maignan, who is a France international with 30 caps to his name, joined AC Milan back in 2021 and he has since made 163 appearances in all competitions. He has also had spells in the past at PSG and Lille. The stopper may well now want to test himself in a new country and if Chelsea’s interest is indeed true, he might get his opportunity in England, but United should have something to say about that if Onana departs.

Manchester United must offer Jadon Sancho swap deal

Sancho, 25, needs to leave for a change of scene. His time with the Red Devils has turned stale and they must try and get him off their books for good. They should try and persuade AC Milan into cashing in on Maignan by offering them the attacker as part of a swap deal arrangement.

Going to Italy could be what Sancho now needs to get his career back on track. He has been a hit abroad in the past in Germany with Borussia Dortmund. He needs to be getting regular first-team football and he is likely to get that at the San Siro. He wouldn’t be a bad signing for AC Milan either and would strengthen their attacking ranks. The London-born star would give the Serie A giants more competition and depth going forward. He would also offer them something different to what they already have.

Sancho made the switch to Dortmund as a youngster from Manchester City and his choice to go to the Bundesliga at such a young age paid off for him in the end. He broke into the first-team at Signal Iduna Park as a teenager and became a key player. His form alerted the attention of United and they swooped in for his services back in 2021.

The England international, who has featured for the Three Lions since 2021, hasn’t been able to make the impact he would have wanted to though. His loan to Chelsea last term was a chance to put himself in the shop window, and he did just that by netting a stunning goal in the Blues’ triumphant 4-1 Europa Conference League Final win over Real Betis. It is yet to be known where he will be playing for now on, but United would do well to use his exit to their full advantage.
