YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Athletics is proud to announce the successful completion of the "Maxx Match" fundraising challenge, launched in partnership with NFL Pro Bowl star and EMU alumnus Maxx Crosby. The initiative inspired the EMU community to raise more than $135,165 in support of EMU Football, a total that Crosby matched personally, bringing the combined impact to over $200,000 for the program.
The online crowdfunding effort saw enthusiastic support from a wide range of Eagle faithful, with 58% of donors identifying as alumni, followed by faculty and staff (5%), parents (3%), students (2%), and friends of the program (2%).
"We are incredibly grateful to everyone who stepped up and contributed to the Maxx Match," said EMU Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee. "Maxx Crosby continues to lead by example. His commitment to our football program, our athletes, and this university is deeply inspiring. This challenge was about more than dollars raised—it was about uniting our community and investing in the future of EMU Football."
The Maxx Match campaign coincided with the announcement of Crosby's appointment as Assistant General Manager of the EMU Football team, where he will support recruiting, player development, NIL strategy, and fundraising. The initiative builds on the Crosbys' historic $1 million gift to EMU Football in 2023 and reinforces their long-term commitment to the growth and excellence of the program.
The momentum around EMU Football continues to build. In addition to Crosby's leadership role and the successful spring season, the program has introduced new traditions—including renaming the weakside defensive end position the "MAXX" and assigning jersey No. 92 to the team's top edge rusher.
EMU Football Head Coach Chris Creighton summed up the moment: "This is what belief looks like. Maxx is more than a great player—he's a great teammate, mentor, and leader. His impact will be felt on and off the field for years to come."
