Man United have been linked to the Premier League left-back, who has attracted interest from several big clubs.
Manchester United are trying to rebuild their squad this summer, meaning that Ruben Amorim will likely try to strengthen in as many positions as possible.
The wing-back position is something that Amorim began to address in January, when he signed Patrick Dorgu, however, the 20-year-old hasn’t made a huge impact, and also lacks experience.
Amorim will likely try to sign both a left-wing-back and a right-wing-back this summer in order to add depth, and more importantly, players that are more comfortable playing in his 3-4-3 formation. United have been linked to a Premier League left-back to help fill the position.
Man United join race for Estupinan
Brighton left-back Pervis Estupinan is generating significant interest after what has been an impressive season for the 27-year-old in Fabian Hurzeler’s first season at the Amex Stadium.
He made 30 appearances in the Premier League last season, scoring one goal and providing one assist. He is known for his blend of both pace and strength, something that United could do with.
According to reports in Spain, United want to sign the Ecuadorian left-back to help provide more options alongside Dorgu at left-back. Spanish outlet Fichajes report that United’s interest is the strongest so far in Estupinan.
There are several sides expected to show interest in the defender this summer with Caught Offside reporting that AC Milan, Chelsea and Tottenham are all keen to sign him too.
Estupinan would be the second Ecuadorian player to put on the red of United, following in the footsteps of Antonio Valencia, who played at Old Trafford between 2009 and 2019, making over 330 appearances for the club. Valencia spoke about Estupinan last season, saying: “For me, Pervis Estupinan is the best left-back in the Premier League and maybe the best in the world. He is having an incredible season and he has room to improve. He’s strong defensively, he’s good on the ball, his crossing has improved, he’s very intelligent. I think he will continue to improve because he’s very professional.”
Estupinan has an estimated transfer value of €30m (£25m), but seeing as there is significant interest in him, Brighton could likely demand more from any buying club.
Estupinan can replace departing Man United defender
The Ecuadorian would likely slot into Amorim’s first team ahead of Dorgu simply because of his experience in the Premier League, and so would be a useful signing for the United boss.
He would likely replace the departing Tyrell Malacia, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Dutch side PSV Eindhoven. The left-back failed to hit the ground running at Old Trafford after a long-term injury last season.
Malacia made 47 appearances for Man United, failing to contribute a goal or an assist. The Red Devils have decided that Malacia has no future at Old Trafford and that they will aim to sell him this summer. It is not understood yet as to where the Dutchman will go.
