It’s safe to say that on the whole, Jack Grealish’s move to Manchester City has not lived up to the billing.
Manchester City signed Grealish for £100 million in 2021, back when he was one of the best players in the Premier League.
Four years later, the 29-year-old could depart the Etihad Stadium and is no longer a guaranteed pick in the England squad.
Manchester City could sell Grealish for £43 million, which highlights how much his stock has plummeted in recent seasons.
Man City should avoid signing Real Madrid star Rodrygo at all costs
In Rodrygo Goes, City could be making the same error in judgement they made by signing Grealish; splashing the cash on a player who they do not need to sign, as the Sky Blues’ primary priority was to replace Sergio Aguero in the forward line by signing a productive forward.
Manchester City are interested in signing Rodrygo in the summer, who has fallen out of favour at Real Madrid — with his recent exclusion from Los Blancos’ squad in their 5-2 defeat against Barcelona summing up his status in the Spanish capital.

Rodrygo’s future is uncertain at Real Madrid and he could be available for a fee in the region of £67 million to £84 million but the reality is that Manchester City do not have any room in their squad for an inside forward.
Rayan Cherki is set to join Pep Guardiola’s side and he has played in such a position on plenty of occasions and so has Phil Foden, notably in the 2023/2024 season where he led them to the Premier League title.
As far as playing a second striker goes, a position where Rodrygo has excelled in the past, Omar Marmoush has looked like the real deal, scoring eight goals since moving to the Etihad Stadium.
Oscar Bobb, Savinho and Cherki are all capable of playing on the right flank, a position where the Brazilian international is yet to prove he is a world-class player.
All the signs point to the fact that much like Jack Grealish, Rodrygo would be a needless addition for Manchester City, despite obviously being a quality player.
What Xabi Alonso said about Rodrygo’s future at Real Madrid
Ultimately, the decision lies in City’s hands.
However, Xabi Alonso has hinted that he would like Rodrygo to stay at Real Madrid.
The Spaniard recently said: “Rodrygo is a Real Madrid player. He is a spectacular player and we will need him.”
Whether Rodrygo stays at Real Madrid or decides to explore a new chapter, Manchester City’s squad rebuild should be focused on other areas of their squad.
