Sesko is the next Haaland as Arsenal transfer plan clear

Arsenal will be in the market for a new centre-forward this summer in an attempt to solve their biggest problem from this season.

The Gunners were actually the third highest scorers in the Premier League this season, but there were many occasions where they failed to kill teams off or failed to make a breakthrough in games they drew.

Mikel Arteta's side drew 14 of their 38 matches - more draws than any other team bar Everton - and that cost them in the title race as Liverpool walked away with the crown by ten points from the Gunners.

Andrea Berta is the new sporting director at the Emirates Stadium, tasked with strengthening Arteta's squad for him for another tilt at the title.

And he has a number of names on his list, with Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres high amongst them.

It is felt that it will be one or the other when it comes to adding to the striker ranks, with both players on the club's radar. Arsenal have been long-term admirers of both players, but it seemed last week that Sesko was more advanced, with reports over "concrete" talks for the Slovenian.

Sesko has been previously compared with Erling Haaland. The two share a similar stature, with Sesko standing at 6ft 4ins tall, with both having incredible physicality and aerial ability, with electric pace to boot.

Haaland has been a revelation in the Premier League and Arsenal will hope Sesko can have the same impact. Speaking at the end of last year, Sesko said: "Such comparisons motivate me and give me energy. They do not represent pressure. I will listen and learn so I can be even better than he is. My teammates at the club tell me that Haaland and I are very similar, especially in terms of speed. Most of them even tell me that I’m better than him!"

It's not there where the connections end. Both players got noticed playing for Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, with both wearing the No.30 shirt while there. In fact it was the No.30 shirt vacated by Haaland that Sesko took upon arrival at Salzburg.

Haaland had spent two years with the Austrian team before making the move across the border to the German Bundesliga to play for Borussia Dortmund.

Sesko had an extra year in Austria with Salzburg before also making the move to Germany, but to play for RB Leipzig.

After two-and-a-half seasons in Germany, Haaland made the big-money move to the Premier League with Manchester City. Sesko has now had two years with Leipzig, could he now make that same trodden path to the Premier League with Arsenal?
