Darwin Nunez looks set to leave Anfield after scoring just five goals in 30 Premier League appearances last season, as the attack at Liverpool relied heavily on the brilliance of Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool have been in talks over Hugo Ekitike as Richard Hughes searches for a new frontman, but a striker the Reds actually released is now being considered by Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid.

Roberto Firmino is an option for Real Madrid

AS in Spain have now claimed that Roberto Firmino is an option for Real Madrid this summer as Los Blancos aim to sign a new utility striker in a cheap deal.

Alonso obviously has an elite striker on his hands at the Santiago Bernabeu in Kylian Mbappe – as well as a precocious understudy in Endrick – although the Spanish news outlet state that Real Madrid are still searching for a more experienced option to come off the bench, like Joselu.

The striker famously scored two late goals against Bayern Munich to send Real Madrid into the UEFA Champions League final in May 2024, but opted to leave for Al-Gharafa in June 2024, rather than continue his role as an impact substitute at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Roberto Firmino wanted Liverpool return amidst Arsenal interest earlier in 2025

Arsenal looked at Firmino earlier this year after losing Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz to serious injuries.

The Brazilian seemed likely to become a free agent after Al Ahli left him out of their Saudi Pro League squad in place of new signing Galeno, putting Arsenal on alert ahead of a potential contract termination.

However, a story from RTI Esporte claimed that Firmino wanted to return to Liverpool if he did end up leaving Saudi Arabia.

Ultimately, the South American remained with Al Ahli, but could yet seal a romantic return to Europe at the age of 33 if Real Madrid opt to make an approach.
