Italian media claim Man Utd are lurking as Roma attempt to agree new contract with‘very special’ player

Manchester United are looking at AS Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar amid question marks over Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.

Ruben Amorim can be very pleased with Manchester United’s start to the summer transfer window.

United have agreed to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, paying his £62.5million release clause in three instalments.

Attacking additions are the main priority, but United also need to have goalkeeping targets in mind.

Svilar has two years left on his contract and Roma are desperate to keep hold of him after seeing him develop into one of Serie A’s very best goalkeepers, as highlighted in the stats above, supplied by Sofascore.

Svilar is demanding around €4million-a-year during contract talks, which works out to around £65,000-a-week.

Roma intend to submit a new offer to Svilar next week, with optimism inside the club that an agreement can be reached.

Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, Svilar hinted that his situation will be clearer in the coming days after holding talks over a new deal.

“Today we met with the club. Renewal? In the next few days everything will be clearer,” said Svilar.

If Roma don’t secure an extension for Svilar, United may be ready to pounce for the goalkeeper who has been hailed as ‘very special’ by former Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto, as quoted by Gianluca Di Marzio.

Manchester United fans may remember Mile Svilar error

Svilar was touted as a wonderkid during his time in the Anderlecht ranks and left the club for Benfica at the age of just 18.

Some United fans may recall that Svilar became the youngest goalkeeper in Champions League history as he started for Benfica against United in October 2017.

The evening turned into a disaster for Svilar, as he was caught out by Marcus Rashford’s free-kick and carried the ball over his own goal line.

Svilar was consoled by United striker and fellow former Anderlecht prospect Romelu Lukaku at the full-time whistle, attempting to help Svilar overcome a rather embarrassing moment.

Anthony Martial had a penalty saved by Svilar at Old Trafford in the return game, with the young stopper exorcising some demons despite losing 2-0.

Svilar has now developed into one of the very best goalkeepers in Europe at 25 and could become a top United target, some eight years since that horror show against Jose Mourinho’s United.
