Browns Re-Sign Wide Receiver, Cut Kicker

When you have four quarterbacks with legitimate chances for jobs at practice each day, there need to be players to throw to. As Fred Greetham reported earlier, the Browns were missing Cedric Tillman and Michael Woods today. They were both on the sidelines, but not practicing. Adding to that, Diontae Johnson still has not (based on his absence from the field today) blessed Berea with his presence at the voluntary workouts.

Perhaps as a result, the Browns have re-signed WR Jaelen Gill to the roster. They also released K Andre Szmyt, leaving Dustin Hopkins unchallenged as Browns placekicker.

Gill was started his college career at Ohio State, a recruiting spot for wide receivers, but transferred from there to Boston College and. ultimately, Fresno State where he caught 49 passes during the 2023 season.

Following his college career, Gill signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent, winding his way to Cleveland's practice squad for five weeks.
